Love & Harmony of Kenya (2013) - Part 1

On my own behalf and on behalf of the Embassy of Korea in Kenya, I am delighted to present to you the ‘Love • Harmony of Kenya’ exhibition here at the National Museum of Kenya. This is the first exhibition to be held by a Korean in Kenya.

The artist, Eun Ju Nam, started dessin at the age of 15 and in 1985 began exhibiting her own work. Her work is mainly inspired by her Christian faith and her paintings try to express God’s love. She is also inspired by artists like Chagall, Matisse, Dufy and Monet.

In 2001, she visited Kenya for three months and was so much impressed by the people and nature of Kenya that she painted over 80 oil paintings in that short period. This beauty and impression did not leave her even while she was away from the country. She returned to visit Kenya again in August 2012 and has been in the country since.

Her paintings are inspired by Kenya’s beautiful environment- the endless horizons, the scenery of the Rift Valley, the Indian ocean, the beaches of Mombasa and Malindi; the beauty of Kenyans- their friendly and easy-going nature, their bright and colourful wardrobe that contrast their beautiful skin tone.

I take this opportunity to thank the National Museum of Kenya for making this exhibition possible and the people of Kenya for creating the inspiration for Ms. Nam’s work of art.  It is my pleasure to welcome you to this exhibition and to encourage you to buy some work of art from the exhibition.
